Privacy Policy

SparkSlides is a small independent business based in Canada. We collect as little personal information as we can, and we keep it only as long as we need it.
1. Who is responsible
SparkSlides is responsible for the personal information described here. The person in charge of protection of personal information is the operator of SparkSlides, reachable at support@sparkslides.com.
2. What we collect
When you buy something. Your email address, the product purchased, a transaction identifier, and the entitlement issued to you, such as a licence code, credit balance, or download record. Payment card details are collected and held by our merchant of record and its payment processor. We never receive them.
When you publish a deck. The PowerPoint file you upload, the images, text and structure inside it, and the web page generated from it. Anything personal that you put inside your own file is inside our systems as a result. See section 8.
When you use the tools. A locally stored identifier in your browser that lets us associate a deck with the browser that published it and enforce free-tier limits, plus basic technical data such as IP address, browser type and timestamps, which our hosting and storage providers log for security and abuse prevention.
When you contact us. Whatever you write to us, plus your email address.
When you ask for product updates. If you submit your email address through a signup form on our site, we collect that address and the date you submitted it, and we use it only to email you about the product you asked about. You can ask us to remove you at any time by writing to support@sparkslides.com.
We do not require an account, we do not ask for your name, and we do not collect payment details.
3. Why we use it
- to deliver what you bought and to keep a record of the sale
- to host, serve and expire published decks
- to enforce free-tier limits and prevent abuse
- to answer your support messages
- to send you the product updates you asked for, and nothing else
- to meet our tax, accounting and legal obligations
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your content to train machine learning models. We do not send marketing email to buyers who did not ask for it.
4. Cookies and local storage
Our tools store a small identifier in your browser's local storage so that a browser can be matched to the decks it published and to its free-tier usage. This is required for the tool to work and is not used for advertising.
We do not use advertising cookies and we do not run cross-site tracking.
5. Service providers
We use a small number of providers to run the service. Each receives only what it needs:
- a payment provider acting as our merchant of record, which handles checkout, payment and tax
- cloud storage and content delivery, for uploaded files and published decks
- application hosting, for our websites, our functions, and any signup form submitted on our site
- a transactional email provider, for receipts and codes
- a third-party presentation rendering service, which receives the PowerPoint file you upload in order to convert it into web content
These providers process information on our behalf under their own security and confidentiality commitments.
6. Where your information is processed
Our providers operate outside Canada, including in the United States and other countries. Your personal information, and the content of files you upload, may be stored or processed in those countries and may be subject to the laws of those countries, including lawful access by their authorities. We assess our providers before using them and use providers that offer recognised security practices.
7. How long we keep it
- Uploaded PowerPoint files: deleted about 1 day after upload
- Free published decks: deleted 3 days after publishing
- Paid permanent decks: kept for as long as we operate the service, or until you ask us to delete them
- Purchase records: your email address, the product, the transaction identifier and the entitlement issued are kept for as long as we are required to retain business and tax records, and to honour re-delivery of a code you bought
- Support messages: kept while we need them to help you, then deleted
- Update-list email addresses: kept until you ask us to remove you, or until we retire the list
- Backups: we keep isolated backups. Backups of paid decks are purged when you ask us to delete a deck. Operational records held in periodic snapshots may persist for a limited additional period before they age out
8. Personal information inside your own files
If your presentation contains personal information about other people, you are the one who decided to include it, and you are responsible for having the right to do so. We process it only to provide the service to you. If someone asks us about content in a deck you published, we will normally direct them to you.
9. Published decks are public by link
A published deck is served from a public address. Anyone with the link can open it. Links are not listed in our navigation and we ask search engines not to index them, but a link is not a password. Do not publish anything you would not be comfortable making public.
10. Your rights
Under Canadian privacy law, including the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), and under other privacy laws that may apply to you, you can:
- ask what personal information we hold about you
- ask us to correct it
- ask us to delete it, subject to records we must keep by law
- withdraw a consent you gave us
- ask us to explain how a decision about you was made, if we ever make automated decisions. We currently do not
To exercise any of these, write to support@sparkslides.com from the address you used with us. We will respond within 30 days. If we refuse a request, we will explain why and tell you how to challenge it.
To delete a published deck, follow section 11 of our Terms. Deleting a deck is permanent and does not refund the credit spent on it.
If you are not satisfied with our answer, you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, or to the privacy authority where you live.
11. Security
We use access-controlled cloud storage, encrypted connections, server-side verification of every action that changes data, secrets held only in our hosting environment, and isolated backups. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach occurs that presents a risk of serious injury, we will notify affected people and the relevant authority as the law requires.
12. Children
Our tools are not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a child. If you believe a child has given us personal information, write to support@sparkslides.com and we will delete it.
13. Changes
We may update this policy. The current version is always posted on this page with its date. If a change is material, we will make that clear on the page.
