To embed a live dashboard in PowerPoint without Power BI, build your dashboard with a free web-based tool, host it at a URL, then use SparkEmbed to display it directly on your slide. The dashboard stays live and interactive during your presentation.

Live Dashboard in PowerPoint

Interactive charts, KPIs, and real-time data on your slides. No Power BI license required.

Microsoft Power BI is the official way to put live dashboards in PowerPoint. It also requires a Pro license at $20 per user per month, admin-managed add-in access, and a Microsoft 365 subscription. Most teams cannot use it. SparkEmbed offers a simpler path: build your dashboard with any web-based tool, get a URL, and embed it in your slide. Same live result, no licensing gate.

Why most teams cannot use Power BI in PowerPoint

Pro license required

Power BI embedding in PowerPoint needs a Power BI Pro license ($20/user/month) or a Premium capacity. Free and Per User plans do not support it.

Admin approval needed

The Power BI add-in must be admin-deployed in most organizations. Individual users cannot install it themselves.

Microsoft stack only

Power BI connects to Microsoft data sources best. If your data lives in Google Sheets, Airtable, Notion databases, or custom APIs, you need a different approach.

Build a dashboard with free tools, embed it with SparkEmbed

You do not need Power BI. Any web-based dashboard that runs at a URL works. Build it with the tools you already know, publish it, and paste the URL into SparkEmbed on your slide.

Flourish

Build multi-chart data stories with 50+ chart types. Free plan, no coding. Publish and embed.

Google Sheets

Publish charts directly from your spreadsheet. Data updates flow to the slide automatically.

Plotly / Dash

Python-powered dashboards with filters, dropdowns, and multiple chart panels. Host on any server and embed.

Custom HTML

Build a dashboard with Chart.js, ECharts, or D3. Host the HTML file anywhere. Embed the URL.

How to put a live dashboard in your slides

  1. 01

    Build your dashboard

Pick a tool: Flourish for no-code, Google Sheets for quick charts, Plotly or custom HTML for full control. Add your charts, KPIs, and data tables.

  2. 02

    Publish to a URL

Every tool has a way to publish or share your dashboard as a web page. Copy the public URL. If you built custom HTML, host it on Netlify, Vercel, GitHub Pages, or any static hosting service.

  3. 03

    Install SparkEmbed in PowerPoint

Download the SparkEmbed manifest file from sparkslides.com. Follow the setup guide for your platform (Windows or Mac) to register it as a Trusted Add-in. This is a one-time setup that takes a few minutes. SparkEmbed costs $6, one-time purchase, no subscription.

  4. 04

Embed the dashboard in your slide

Open the SparkEmbed pane on your slide. Paste the dashboard URL. The live dashboard appears directly on the slide with full interactivity: hover tooltips, filters, and real-time data.

A live dashboard, inside a slide

This dashboard is running live from a URL. In a real presentation, SparkEmbed displays it directly on your slide with full hover and tooltip interactivity.

Try it yourself: open the demo dashboard in your browser, then embed that URL in a slide using SparkEmbed.

Tips for dashboard presentations

Design for slide dimensions. Build your dashboard at roughly 960x540 pixels or 16:9 aspect ratio. This fills a SparkEmbed frame cleanly without scrollbars.

Keep it focused. A slide dashboard should show 3 to 5 key metrics, not a full analytics workspace. Your audience has seconds, not minutes.

Have a static fallback. Export a screenshot of your dashboard and place it on a hidden backup slide. If the venue's Wi-Fi fails, switch to the backup.

Questions about dashboards in PowerPoint

Does this replace Power BI?

For slide-based presentations, yes. SparkEmbed displays any web dashboard inside a slide. For full-scale enterprise analytics, data modeling, and row-level security, Power BI remains the more complete platform. SparkEmbed solves the presentation problem without the licensing overhead.

Can multiple slides show different dashboards?

Yes. Each SparkEmbed instance is independent. Put a different URL on each slide: a revenue dashboard on slide 3, a customer map on slide 5, a KPI panel on slide 8.

Can I embed dashboards from Grafana or Kibana?

If the dashboard has a publicly accessible URL (or a URL reachable from the presenting computer's network), SparkEmbed can display it. This includes Grafana, Kibana, Metabase, and any other web-based monitoring tool.

Does the dashboard refresh during the presentation?

The dashboard loads when the slide opens. Whether it auto-refreshes depends on the dashboard tool itself. Many tools (Grafana, Plotly Dash, custom HTML with setInterval) support auto-refresh on a timer.

Live data on every slide

SparkEmbed turns any web dashboard into a PowerPoint slide. One add-in, one purchase, unlimited dashboards.
