How to embed a Flourish chart in PowerPoint

Create your chart in Flourish
Go to flourish.studio and sign up for a free account. Click "New visualization," pick a template (bar chart, line chart, map, or any of the 50+ options), and paste your data. Customize colors, labels, and tooltips until the chart tells your story.

Publish the chart
Click "Publish" in the top-right corner. Flourish generates a public URL for your visualization. Copy this URL. It looks something like

Install SparkEmbed in PowerPoint
Download the SparkEmbed manifest file from sparkslides.com. Follow the setup guide for your platform (Windows or Mac) to register it as a Trusted Add-in. This is a one-time setup that takes a few minutes. SparkEmbed costs $6, one-time purchase, no subscription.

Embed the chart in your slide
Click the SparkEmbed pane on your slide. Paste the Flourish URL. The interactive chart appears directly on your slide. Save the file. Every time you or anyone else opens this presentation, the chart loads live from Flourish.

Tips for the best results
Size your chart for slides. In Flourish's layout settings, set the width to around 960px. This fits well inside a SparkEmbed frame on a standard 16:9 slide.
Keep the internet connection. The chart loads from Flourish's servers, so the presenting computer needs to be online. For a backup, export a static PNG from Flourish and place it on a hidden slide.
Update without re-embedding. If you edit the chart in Flourish after embedding, the changes appear automatically the next time the slide loads. No need to re-paste the URL.

Is Flourish really free?

Does the chart update if I change the data in Flourish?

What if I lose internet during the presentation?
The chart will not load without a connection. Export a static PNG from Flourish as a fallback and place it on a backup slide. Most presentation venues have reliable Wi-Fi.
