Tips for Tableau presentations
Design for 16:9. Set your Tableau dashboard size to 960x540 pixels or use a 16:9 range size. This matches standard slide proportions and fills the SparkEmbed frame cleanly.
Use Tableau Public, not Tableau Server. SparkEmbed needs a publicly accessible URL. Tableau Server and Tableau Cloud workbooks behind authentication will not load in the add-in unless the presenting computer has network access and active credentials.
Minimize load time. Complex dashboards with many data extracts can take several seconds to load in Tableau Public. Keep the embedded view focused on one or two key visualizations for a responsive presentation experience.
Questions about Tableau and SparkEmbed
Can I use Tableau Server or Tableau Cloud instead of Tableau Public?
Only if the URL is accessible from the presenting computer without a login prompt. Most Tableau Server deployments require authentication, which SparkEmbed cannot pass through. Tableau Public is the reliable path for presentations.
Do filters persist between sessions?
Filters set during editing are not saved by SparkEmbed. The dashboard loads fresh from Tableau Public each time. If you want a specific filter state, set it as the default view in Tableau before publishing.
Is Tableau Public free?
Yes. Tableau Public is free with unlimited visualizations. The only requirement is that published workbooks are public. If your data is confidential, consider publishing a visualization built from aggregated or anonymized data.
Can I embed Tableau and other charts on different slides?
